Recreational Opportunities Near Kalispell, Montana

1. Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park is one of the best national parks in the United States, just like the nearby Yellowstone National Park next to Livingston. With dozens of amazing hikes and viewpoints, you will never run out of places to go. The Garden Wall gives you a panoramic view of valleys from the top of a very tall cliff, like the Grand Canyon. Blackfoot Glacier is the largest glacier in the park. And perhaps my favorite place is Cracker Lake, a turquoise lake that puts you at the bottom of an amphitheater of cliffs resembling Yosemite Valley. The entrance to the park is only 40 minutes and 32 miles away from Kalispell!

2. Whitefish

Whitefish is a beautiful town next to Whitefish Lake and Whitefish Mountain Resort. It is 25 minutes and 15 miles away from Kalispell. There are a lot of hiking trails and fun activities at the lake, such as kayaking.

3. Columbia Falls

Columbia Falls is 25 minutes and 17 miles away from Kalispell. It is the closest large town to Glacier National Park with plenty of hotels and lodging. There is even the Flathead River, the large river that runs right through the town!

4. Polson

Polson is on the southern edge of Flathead Lake an hour away from Kalispell. Their hotels and businesses offer views of the mountains and lake, plus the Mission Mountains. Nearby are Mission Reservoir, Lucifer Lake, and McDonald Lake - all very beautiful places to go in those mountains.

5. Flathead Lake

Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States by surface area. It also has some of the clearest water in the world. I highly recommend kayaking or boating so you can see just how clean it is!

With plenty of amenities and room types, it will be tough to pick the wrong hotel. You can choose a modern hotel or one with antler sheds and a log cabin atmosphere. There are plenty of places to eat in Kalispell, too. Have a fun time in Kalispell, and travel through Glacier National Park if you have the chance!
