Writers Vista Park is a 6-acre park located right next to McLellan Reservoir in Littleton, Colorado. With a soccer field, small baseball field, basketball court, playground, and a lake view, it’s an amazing place to spend a day and watch the sunset and mountains - for both kids and adults. With both evergreen and deciduous trees, you can always be in the shade or enjoy the unique colors. Writers Vista Park is a wonderful place to have a picnic or play a sport.
I just love this video of a little girl playing with her dog. You can see just how much fun kids cane have on this playground! You can see the reservoir in the background, too.
The baseball field has a bleacher with 3 rows, so you will probably need to bring your own chair if you don’t want to be shoulder-to-shoulder with others. The baseball players will also have a bench and shade. Parents can get some shade underneath the trees, too. The dirt part of the baseball field measures 140 feet across.
The sole soccer field has painted lines and goalposts for the majority of the year. Luckily, Writers Vista Park in Arapahoe County doesn’t get too crowded because of the lack of fields; there is a lot of parking, though, so there can be a decent number of people.
On the south side of the park next to McLellan Reservoir, there is a concrete walkway that leads all the way to the southwestern side of the reservoir. The total distance is 1.5 miles one-way, and I highly recommend this walk or bike ride. Furthermore, there is a trail that leads to the eastern side of the reservoir. It runs right next to the High Line canal.
There are some benches and trash cans along these trails, so leave no trace.
The parking lot on the eastern side has 50 spots and two handicapped spaces. The parking lot can get full a lot of the time; the lot is across the street, so watch your children carefully.
Writers Vista Park Playground
One playground is meant for 2-5-year-olds, and the other is meant for 5-12-year-olds.
The playground has 3 slides, including a very tall one that swirls. There’s a rope wall, tunnel, net climbers and a rope maze that lead to the top of the tall slide, a tree ladder, a spinning gear feature, and musical instruments.
There are a total of 5 swings, 3 of which hold children (bucket, accessible, and classic). One of them is a chair that can hold a young child.
Next to the playground are some tables where the parents can stay. And yes, there is shade. There are also a couple of bathrooms in this building, plus a couple of porta-potties near the street.
The playground is luckily made out of rubber, so children have much less of a chance of getting injured.
This is the best playground that I have blogged about so far, even better than Southbridge Park right next door.
